about

I bought a pair of emerald earrings for a girl once because she had emerald eyes and because I’m a hopeless romantic and I believed that everything would work out between us. Of course I’m older now so I know that things don’t always work out, especially not the way you think they will. That ‘girl’ is older now too and she’s told me more than once that she never takes off her ‘Emeralds’. Sometimes when I’m halfway across the country I whisper her name to the four walls of my motel room in the dead of night and think “everything’s gonna work out when I get home”. This is for You, Suzanne…

Special ‘Thanks’ to Sean McGowan and Woody Moran for the chorussuggestions. And a BIG Thanks to ALL the wonderful people (Brad, Jim, Dennis, Lynn, etc.) at the Sisters Folk Festival & the Americana Songwriting Academy. You folks will always be ‘Home’ to me…

lyrics

I’m Comin’ Home
By Dan Weber © 2015 Highway142Music (ASCAP)

Wet streets, restless sound, autumn finally just fell down
I’ll shed this skin they call a town, then babe, I’m Comin’ Home
Deadbolt the door, turn down the heat, a hollow stone holds the key
The mail will find me eventually, ‘cause babe, I’m Comin’ Home
I’ll make 400 miles today, 50 more if it goes my way
And those mountains meet me half way, then babe, I’m Comin’ Home

Chorus:
To emerald eyes
And clear blue, clear blue, skies
Emerald eyes…

From Kansas line to Kansas line, an ocean of wheat sublime
Half the country, twice the time, but babe, I’m Comin’ Home
But the gears stripped for good this time, clench your jaw, teeth will grind
It might take a week, I’ll hitch a ride, ‘cause babe, I’m Comin’ Home
Checkered flag, depot floor, midnight Greyhound dinosaur
It’s so hard to hitchhike anymore but babe I’m Comin’ Home

Repeat Chorus

Repeat Chorus

One month in, 3 weeks lost, I took a job, damn the cost
But mark the date, before the frost, babe I’m Comin’ Home
Last night, on the phone, I could tell you weren’t alone
So you’ve gotta know that I’ve gotta know, ‘cause babe, I’m Comin’ Home
Well they say, it might snow today, things ain’t really gone my way
In that Christmas card, what I meant to say was, ‘Suzanne…I’m Comin’ Home’
