Oh Woody
Daniel Weber © 2015 Highway142Music (ASCAP)
They left Oklahoma, in the Grapes of Wrath
In the Dust Bowl days, they never looked back
Oh, they never looked back, but they’re moving again
California’s no longer the Promised Land
Chorus:
Oh Woody, Oh Woody, where are you now?
And what would you say?
Oh Woody, Oh Woody, where are you now?
We could sure use you today
We’re willing to work, there’s no work to be done
Illegal or union, it don’t matter none
‘Cause the Wall Street bankers and corporate greed
They’ve shipped all the jobs, overseas
Chorus:
Oh Woody, Oh Woody, where are you now?
And what would you say?
Oh Woody, Oh Woody, where are you now?
We could sure use you today
Now there’s drought in the plains, and fires in the West
It was the hottest summer on record I guess
With a cough in their lungs, dried tears on their face
It’s lookin’ more and more like the Dust Bowl days
Bridge:
And I still hear Woody, his guitar in hand
Singing songs for the men on the Grand Coulee Dam
Singing ‘This Land is your Land, this land is mine’
Oh Woody, we sure miss you tonight
Now I’m livin’ out there, in the Great Northwest
So long as it rains, may we be blessed
And its long live the salmon, long after we’re gone
Then its ‘Roll on Columbia, Columbia Roll On!’
Chorus:
Oh Woody, Oh Woody, where are you now?
And what would you say?
Oh Woody, Oh Woody, where are you now?
We could sure use you today
Oh Woody, Oh Woody, where are you now?
We could sure use you today
We could sure use you today
We could sure, use you today!

What I'm Lookin' For

What I’m Lookin’ For
By Dan Weber © 2015 Highway142Music (ASCAP)
When the road home hits the county line, the sign says ‘Pavement Ends’
And that’s where the country begins
And where work is just a job I do; the world stops keepin’ score
That’s What I’m Lookin’ For
In a 1920’s town, that the freeway left behind
Where your neighbor’s know your business, but they don’t pay it any mind
And there’s no key for the mailbox, and no need to lock your doors
That’s What I’m Lookin’ For
Chorus:
That’s What I’m Lookin’ For, a little view right there, off of our front porch
With a welcome mat for old friends, to be strangers no more
That’s What I’m Lookin’ For
Where the high school kids still spray paint the town’s old water tower
While the ‘decent folks’ were sleeping, at that hour
But they are on a first-name basis, down at the hardware store
That’s What I’m Lookin’ For
And on the Fourth of July, they’ll still have a big parade
Where the rodeo queen, rides by and waves
But now the old vets march in Cadillac’s, in their pressed uniforms
And that’s What I’m Lookin’ For
See I’m lookin’ for the country that this country left behind
Where they still say ‘Sir’ and ‘Maam’, because it’s polite
Where a handshake is a promise, and your word means even more
And that’s What I’m Lookin’ For, that’s What I’m Lookin’ For...
So it does my heart some good, once I cross that county line
It feels like, I just left the world behind
And someday when I find you, I won’t ever ask for more
That’s What I’m Lookin’ For
Chorus:
That’s What I’m Lookin’ For, a little view right there, off of our front porch
With an old friend to tell stories, we’ve told a million times before
That’s What I’m Lookin’ For
Chorus:
That’s What I’m Lookin’ For, a little view right there, off of our front porch
And we could watch the stars shine, like they’ve never done before
That’s What I’m Lookin’ For, That’s What I’m….Lookin’ For

Do you Ride Horses

Do You Ride Horses
By Dan Weber © 2015 Highway142Music (ASCAP)
She had room full of pictures, a museum of sorts
5 children, 9 grandkids, traced back to the source
In that photo from the 40’s, it was black and white of course
Her husband Jim, he was sitting on his horse
She said ‘You would’ve like Jim, he was a cowboy like you
He wore a straw Stetson hat, till it fell clean through
And every fall at the round-up, he’d get one brand new
Aw, you would’ve liked Jim; he loved to ride horses’
Chorus:
Do you Ride Horses? What’s your breed?
A good saddle, that’s all you need
To be closer to God, then you might ever be
You would’ve liked Jim, he loved to ride horses
When he came back from the war, Jim came back changed
It was something that he saw, said he just couldn’t say
He’d take 2 weeks off in August, to try and ride away
And he went further, and further on that horse
She said ‘I never tagged along, even though I could ride’
The truth is, she was pregnant, damn near half of the time
But she always hoped that colt, could heal the man inside
And inside Jim, he loved to ride horses
Repeat Chorus
But now there’s 40 years gone, from those frames staring back
She said there’s no use, living in the past…
In retirement Jim kept riding, but his hip was keeping score
He said it’s like a rusty hinge, with a heavy wooden door
But he just had to ride that country, maybe one time more
And you know Jim, he loved to ride horses
They found his saddle, with his body, but that horse was born to run
Out where Idaho, Nevada, and Oregon are one
And where bands of wild horses, disappear into the sun
With the ones, who love to ride horses
Repeat Chorus
Well you’ll be closer to God then you might ever be
You would’ve liked Jim, he loved to ride horses
So here’s to Jim, who loved to ride horses

Cowboy Style
By Dan Weber © 2015 Highway142Music (ASCAP)
When I die won’t you honor my last will and test
And these wishes I’ll ask of you now
They’re simple and few, so promise you’ll do
The best that you know how
The lay me down under the stars, so I can rest a while
Oh way ‘Out West’ I long to be
‘Cause I wanna go Cowboy Style
Load the wagons in the Spring, when the Red-Wing Blackbird sings
And please bring my old guitar
Then play it for me once again, as I round that final bend
Aw, she’s taken me this far
Then won’t you give it away at the close of day, ‘cause I’ll be traveling light
Then play ‘Red River Valley’ just one last time
‘Cause I wanna go Cowboy Style
Chorus:
And let those horses run free, let their spirits be
Aw, they already know I’m gone
Find that canyon on the map, no there’s no turnin’ back
And the trail, it won’t be long
Now don’t make a fuss, you know I don’t need much
Just the shade of some fine old tree
And a river that’s near, so I hear her
Singin’ me to sleep
And say these words at my grave, John 5:28, ‘cause Lord knows I tried
And build a simple box of Ponderosa Pine
‘Cause I wanna go Cowboy Style
Repeat Chorus
At last there’s my hat, don’t y’all forget about that
‘Cause I’d miss it, if it were gone
And these old cowboy boots, hell you know just what to do
So you better damn sure leave ‘em on
Now don’t be shy, no please stop by, and be sure to bring a song
And some whiskey to share, ‘cause I’ll be dry
And I wanna go Cowboy Style
So when my race is run and my days are done
You pile those stones up high
With a white wooden cross that just says ‘Here Lies’
Then let me go Cowboy Style
Yeah, I wanna go Cowboy Style

Leaving Texas
By Dan Weber © 2015 Highway142Music (ASCAP)
I fell in love with Texas through the people I met at the Kerrville Folk Festival, which is unlike any other festival in the country. It’s an 18 day campout---like Woodstock for songwriters. I drove there 2,500 miles (one way) on a whim, and when I showed up the first person I met said ‘Welcome Home’. Nowadays, traveling around, every once in a while I’ll meet someone who will ask me ‘Are you from Texas?’ and I can’t think of nicer thing to say to a stranger except maybe ‘Welcome Home’.
Today you’re leaving Texas, as if I couldn’t tell
Your bags are packed; you ain’t lookin’ back; now it’s time to wish you well
So I’ll kiss you and tell you, your journey’s just begun
But no matter how far you roam, this is where you’re from
Chorus:
So you can go to California, I hope your dreams come true
And you can leave Texas behind, but Texas will never leave you
Times were tough; hope I did enough, to start you on your way
Forgive me too, for feelin’ as blue, as the Texas sky today
Remember I taught you: You give it all you have to give
‘Cause that’s where the Heart of Texas, the Heart of Texas lives
Repeat Chorus
Well I know you need to go, but please understand
If you think about comin’ back, you just get here as fast, as fast as you can
Chorus:
So you go to California, and I’ll wait here for you
‘Cause you can leave Texas behind, but Texas will never leave you
You can leave Texas behind, but Texas will never leave you
You can leave Texas behind, but Texas will never leave you

Waiting on a Star
By Dan Weber © 2015 Highway142Music (ASCAP)
The room smelled like lilies, on Easter Sunday
But it was Tuesday, it was Tuesday all day
At Falvo and Sons Funeral Parlor
It was Tuesday, but it’s always that way
All the ladies wore black; the men wore suits
And ‘Old Spice’ to hide the booze
And though everyone tried, no one could fathom
The depths of what more, they could lose
Chorus:
‘Cause she was their own angel, with homemade wings
Who flew too close to the sun
Now they’re lined up on Main, for that long black wagon
Waiting for their star to come
A small town, a small town, ain’t it always that way
She started in church, singin’ His praise
One day a man, from L.A. came callin’
To take her so far away
So far she could hardly recognize
The face in the mirror, behind the lies
Aw, but the folks back home, saw through her disguise
A scared little girl, behind her eyes
The motorcade starts up, when the doors slam close
It starts raining, she’d like that I suppose
Inside the Limo it’s quiet, but outside they’re singing
Her songs that everyone knows
Repeat Chorus
And the air smelled like lilies, on Easter Sunday
But it was Tuesday, it was Tuesday all day
And it rained all the way, to the cemetery
But I think she’d have liked it that way
Chorus:
‘Cause she was God’s own angel, with homemade wings
Who flew too close to the sun
Now they’re lined up on Main, for that long black wagon
Just waiting for their star to come
Yeah they're singing her songs, underneath their umbrellas
Still waiting for their star to come

Spinning My Wheels
By Dan Weber © 2015 Highway142Music (ASCAP)
The bones of the day broke away, in the rearview, what’s left to say?
I should be done, driving tonight
‘Cause I’m done with the darkness, and the seatbelt as a harness
And I’m tired of being, too tired to fight
And I’m sick of my excuses, bad habits and abuses
Those potions don’t work, anymore
And anymore I’m a stranger, to myself, and I’m in danger
Of not knowin’, what I’m drivin’ for
Chorus:
I’ve taken my chances, made my mistakes
I broke both legs for luck, just in case…
Now somewhere in the distance, there’s a town where I belong
I’ve been Spinning My Wheels, too long
When I started I was younger, there was fire and hunger
And plenty of time to kill
Now lookin’ back I can’t believe, in a blink I was deceived
Cause 20 years went quicker than a $20 dollar bill
And that shadow I was racing, she wasn’t worth chasin’
Those lights play tricks on you
And that dashboard St. Christopher fell off on the curves
I guess there’s only so much, saints can do
Repeat Chorus
Now home ain’t so, far away
Repeat Chorus
The bones of the day broke away, in the rearview, what’s left to say?
I should be done, driving tonight

I’m Comin’ Home
By Dan Weber © 2015 Highway142Music (ASCAP)
Wet streets, restless sound, autumn finally just fell down
I’ll shed this skin they call a town, then babe, I’m Comin’ Home
Deadbolt the door, turn down the heat, a hollow stone holds the key
The mail will find me eventually, ‘cause babe, I’m Comin’ Home
I’ll make 400 miles today, 50 more if it goes my way
And those mountains meet me half way, then babe, I’m Comin’ Home
Chorus:
To emerald eyes
And clear blue, clear blue, skies
Emerald eyes…
From Kansas line to Kansas line, an ocean of wheat sublime
Half the country, twice the time, but babe, I’m Comin’ Home
But the gears stripped for good this time, clench your jaw, teeth will grind
It might take a week, I’ll hitch a ride, ‘cause babe, I’m Comin’ Home
Checkered flag, depot floor, midnight Greyhound dinosaur
It’s so hard to hitchhike anymore but babe I’m Comin’ Home
Repeat Chorus
Repeat Chorus
One month in, 3 weeks lost, I took a job, damn the cost
But mark the date, before the frost, babe I’m Comin’ Home
Last night, on the phone, I could tell you weren’t alone
So you’ve gotta know that I’ve gotta know, ‘cause babe, I’m Comin’ Home
Well they say, it might snow today, things ain’t really gone my way
In that Christmas card, what I meant to say was, ‘Suzanne…I’m Comin’ Home’

Separate Ways
By Dan Weber © 2015 Highway142Music (ASCAP)
When there was nothin’ left, on moving day
But one last goodbye, with nothin’ to say
I stood there in the driveway, and I knew
‘Cause even though, it’d been comin’ for months
I didn’t think, it would hurt this much
Packed the rest, of my stuff, feelin’ blue...
Chorus:
We’ve been goin’ our Separate Ways
Long before the truck came today
So I can’t believe I feel this way, but I do
I called my friends; you put down the rugs
To try an keep the carpet, from the mud
The forecast promised sun, all week
And while you made coffee, I cracked a beer
It’s gotta be close, to noon somewhere
Or anyplace else, I’d rather be...
Chorus:
We’ve been goin’ our Separate Ways
Long before the truck came today
So I can’t believe I feel this way, but I do
Now that day has finally come
Girl I’m gonna miss you some
We really did have some fun
Before, we went our Separate Ways
It’s hard to say, when we knew for sure
I guess I won’t, need your key anymore
Stick shift in this old U-Haul
Ease the clutch, so she won’t stall
There’s liquor boxes, riding tall, and busting at the seams
Though it seems like it’s the perfect day
To make a clean getaway
Some memories seem to stay, longer than you need
Repeat Chorus

That Time of Night
By Dan Weber © 2015 Highway142Music (ASCAP)
When the clock’s been punched, and your shift is through
That same old wave, washes over you
The loading docks let out a sigh
When that train rolls through, like it always does
She blows her whistle, maybe just because
It’s getting’ to be, That Time of Night
So you stop at the bar, and your blood shifts gears
Let the rain starts fallin’ on, deaf ears
Then you think too late, to call your wife
But she won’t be up, no, she don’t wait now
It’s too many years, and anyhow
It’s getting’ to be, That Time of Night
Chorus:
That Time of Night, when the dark begins
That Time of Night, when the clock don’t have no friends
When that drink you had, was the last, till you ordered one in spite
Cause it’s getting’ to be, That Time of Night
When some wine-drunk girl asks you to dance
Aw, she’s half your age, twice the chance
But as luck would have it, the song ends, just in time
While she bums a smoke, she talks so fast
The cold front settles down in your chest
Cause it’s getting’ to be, That Time of Night
Repeat Chorus
Come tomorrow, I’ll be back again,
when that old familiar ache, gets beneath my skin, hmmm…
So when the last stop home is 20 bucks in gas
And there’s a ‘Scratch and Win’ right there in your grasp
But it ain’t meant to be, at least not tonight
Cause the price of a dollar is exactly the same
As three nickels, three quarters and a dime in change
When it’s getting’ to be, That Time of Night
Repeat Chorus

Pretty Good Tonight
By Dan Weber © 2015 Highway142Music (ASCAP)
I was never cool in High School; I just did not fit in
I was somewhere between the jocks and the geeks, but I was never part of them
And I didn’t have a plan for what came next; they said my future wasn’t bright
Well I don’t know about you, but I still ain’t cool, but I feel Pretty Good Tonight
Ain’t life changed a lot since then; no use in keeping score
I don’t worry about fittin’ in, with that ‘In’ crowd no more
I made my mistakes along the way, sometimes I made ‘em twice
Call that luck or perseverance, but I feel Pretty Good Tonight
Chorus:
I feel like celebrating tonight!
How we got these scars, and still survived the fight
And knowin’ who we are, and knowin’ it’s alright---it’s alright
Now I’ve got gas in the car, a tab at the bar, a little money in the bank
I’ve got a friend who says I’ve got it made, but that’s not what I think
I think I’m lucky to have a friend like that, who thinks that I’m alright
And we can pay that tab tomorrow, ‘cause I feel Pretty Good Tonight
Repeat Chorus
I’ve been runnin’ from myself, most of my life
But that was then and this is now
And I feel Pretty Good Tonight, Pretty Good Tonight
For so many years, I was too scared, to get up here on stage
Till I finally learned I had to get, out of my own way
You see, you’ve gotta chase the things you love, let your dreams take flight
You know I’m still scared sometimes but I don’t mind, ‘cause I feel Pretty Good Tonight
Repeat Chorus
So I feel Pretty Good Tonight; Yeah I feel Pretty Good Tonight
I feel Pretty Good; I feel Pretty Good; I feel Pretty Good Tonight
Pretty Good Tonight, Pretty Good Tonight, Pretty Good Tonight…

Take a Liking to You
By Dan Weber © 2015 Highway142Music (ASCAP)
May there be a little extra, in your paycheck this month
May you take that long vacation, that you’ve been dreaming of
And may it not be monsoon season, when you finally get to go
And when your trip over, may you be the last to know
May you get a good night’s sleep, like you haven’t in a while
May you know the joy of waking up; to your lover’s smile
And may you take an extra hour, ‘neath the covers in the ‘morn
And when you count your blessings, may you never want for more
Chorus:
Oh they say it’s all downhill from here
But don’t you believe it’s true
And may the good Lord, Take a Liking to You
May your fever finally break, may you feel like you belong
May the kindness of strangers, prove you wrong…
May you not sweat the small stuff; that’s why they call it small
When need a friend the most, may I be the one you call
May your old car run, like it used to run, back when it was new
And may the good Lord, Take a Liking to You
Repeat Chorus
Yeah they say it’s all downhill from here
But don’t you believe it’s true
And may the good Lord, Take a Liking to You

Ain’t Done Ramblin’ Yet
By Dan Weber © 2015 Highway142Music (ASCAP)
I was talkin’ to my neighbor, I said “Son, do me a favor
Keep an eye on the place while I’m gone”
He asked me where I’m going; I said “I got no way of knowin’
But this time, it’s been too long
You see I need this vacation; I’m overdue in takin’
So I might be gone a while
What I crave is open road, and when I get there I’ll know”
It might take a little while but then again…
Chorus:
I Ain’t Done Ramblin’ Yet,
No, I Ain’t Done Ramblin’ Yet
‘Cause there’s still places I ain’t been, people I ain’t met
I Ain’t Done Ramblin’ Yet
I told him “When I was your age, I worked night and day
Tryin’ to get ahead in this life
But that was long before I knew, what you’re bound to learn too
That all we’re given is time
But they never say how long, so it’s best I’m movin’ on
There’s things I ain’t seen yet
And that’s the funny thing ‘bout age, my vision ain’t the same
But I see better then I ever have”…
Repeat Chorus
Chorus:
I Ain’t Done Ramblin’ Yet,
No, I Ain’t Done Ramblin’ Yet
‘Cause there’s still places I ain’t been, good people I ain’t met
I Ain’t Done Ramblin’ Yet
Repeat Chorus
I Ain’t Done…Not by a long shot…Ramblin’…Yet

(I Deal with) Crazy ALL Day
By Dan Weber © 2015 Highway142Music (ASCAP)
I paid last month, right on the date, but now they say that I was late
Well I know they’re wrong, I can plainly see when they took my money
I called customer service on the phone; I said “There’s been some mistake”
I said “I know this sounds crazy”, she said “No it don’t
I deal with Crazy ALL Day”
Chorus:
Crazy All Day long, Crazy, it’s the same old song
I don’t know why it’s gotta be this way but I…
I deal with Crazy ALL Day
I was driving too fast, like I sometimes do, when I got pulled over that night
The cop said “Do you know how fast you were going son?” I said “Yeah, I think about 85”
“And its no excuse officer, but those cars were in my way”
I said “I know that sounds crazy”, he said “No it don’t
I deal with Crazy ALL Day”
Repeat Chorus
Well the world keeps spinning faster and faster
And I’m goin’ out of my mind
‘Cause I’m too plugged in and I’m too wound up
And I want off of this ride
Well I never saw it coming, I never felt nothing, everything was going just fine
I walking down the streets of my hometown, when I saw this flash of light
Next thing I know I’m standing there, at the pearly gates
St. Peter this is crazy, he said “No my son,
I deal with Crazy ALL Day”
Repeat Chorus
I don’t know why it’s gotta be this way but I…
I deal with Crazy ALL Day
